THE LATEST: At least 27 Western Cape schools were hit by robbers and vandals over the Winter school holidays.
The Education Department’s Jessica Shelver says most of these schools are located in the Cape Winelands District.
She adds one school in the eastern part of Cape Town lost appliances, computers and other vital equipment.
“While we note that one case was classified as major, another “minor” case is costing the department over R60 000 to repair and replace what was damaged or stolen.
This is a large amount of money that could better be spent on improving education opportunities for the learners at the school,” says Shelver.
