British actor, comedian and media personality Russell Brand has been found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.

The 51-year-old was facing seven charges in total, but a court in London, found him not guilty of three offences which include other charges of rape and indecent assault.

The charges dated from 1999 to 2009 and concerned six women, including a 21-year-old whom Brand raped after they met at one of his shows in West London.

Among the four offences Brand is guilty of is a sexual assault charge while he was working on a Channel 4 project in 2009.

In a statement, the broadcaster shared some heartfelt remarks.

“Our thoughts are first and foremost with the six women involved in the case against Russell Brand, including those affected by the crimes for which he has been convicted.

We recognise the profound impact of these crimes and commend the extraordinary courage of all those who gave evidence as prosecution witnesses at trial.”

Prosecutors reportedly told the court that Brand was ‌obsessed with sex and used women to satisfy his own desires.

One victim reportedly said he treated her “like an animal”.

Brand denied all the charges.

He will remain behind bars until his next court appearance on Monday.
