A local activist and content creator is challenging the assumption that homeless people in Cape Town can simply move in to municipal shelters to escape the hard life of the streets.
Dean from Cape Town Audits has captured and shared footage documenting widespread sexual violence in squatter communities and severe safety failures inside shelters.
He told HeartFM News that many facilities are gang-controlled and unaffordable for the destitute, forcing vulnerable people to remain on the streets.
Ahead of the Local Government Elections, the content creator is calling on the city to urgently invest in large-scale drug rehabilitation and safer shelters….
