The Constitutional Court has ordered the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) to add the disqualified ANC candidates to the ballot ahead of the 4 November elections.

The apex court handed the ruling a short while ago, following a weeks-long court battle.

The ANC approached the court, after it lost its appeal in the Electoral Court, last month.

This all stems from the ANC failing to submit its final candidate lists before the 28th of August. They were meant to click the “Submit as Final”button on the IEC’s online portal.

This resulted in 181 candidates, from across six municipalities, being barred from the ballot.

These candidates are from municipalities in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Free State.

The ANC argued that it uploaded the details of candidates, but failed to hit the button, due to a technical system glitch.

The IEC previously said it will incur the costs of reprinting ballots in municipalities, where the ANC and other parties, missed the filing deadline have to be included.
