Kicking off demonstrations, Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the Cape Town Holocaust and Genocide Museum this morning.

With them, a 20-metre shroud inscribed with the names of over 20,000 Palestinian children who, according to Palestinian health authorities, have been killed in the conflict.

Specifically, the young lives lost during Israel’s subsequent military campaign in Gaza, after the Hamas-led attacks on October 7th.

Religious leader Sheikh Rashid Omar led prayers at the picket.

He says their message of solidarity extends not only to Palestinians, but also to Jewish families and those who lost loved ones in the October 7th attacks….

The procession has peacefully moved through the city, and will conclude at noon with a vigil at St. George’s Cathedral.

This act is to also honor what would have been Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s 95th birthday.
