The City of Cape Town is demanding an immediate end to the conflict between taxi associations, CATA and CODETA.

At least seven people have been killed in taxi-related shootings across the city in the past week, with at least three others wounded in the past 24 hours.

Commuters are advised to avoid taxis belonging to CATA and CODETA for fear of retaliatory attacks.

The city’s Mayco member for Urban Mobility Rob Quintas has issued a direct call to the two taxi associations.

Meanwhile, Premier Alan Winde has strongly condemned the violence.

He says this is not how business should be conducted…

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says that Metro Police are maintaining a heightened presence at various taxi ranks in the City.

The Delft Taxi Rank has also been closed until further notice.
