Police are investigating a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder, following a deadly shooting at Bofors Circle on Thursday night.

One man was killed, while two others were seriously injured.

Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala says police responded to multiple shots fired at the taxi rank.

While police have stated “the motive for the attack is taxi violence related”, the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has yet to confirm this. HeartFM has reached out to the association for comment.

MULTIPLE VICTIMS IN SEPARATE SHOOTINGS

Other suspected acts of taxi violence have been reported within 24 hours.

In Maitland, two men were shot dead, and another was injured on Thursday, at a taxi rank in the area.

And in Delft, another two men were also killed at the Palm Taxi Rank.

It is unclear at this stage if the shootings are linked to each other. But unconfirmed reports have suggested that the violence is fueled by a route dispute between taxi associations, CODETA and CATA.

No suspects have yet been arrested.
