Israel has ordered its military to prepare for a full closure of the occupied West Bank after a shooting near Hebron left at least five people injured.

Israeli forces killed two suspected Palestinian attackers, whom the military said were responsible for the incident. The pair reportedly attacked a reserve battalion.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered security forces to cordon off Hebron and prepare additional restrictions on movement across the occupied territory.

The attack and subsequent clampdown comes amid heightened tensions across the Palestinian territory in the rise before next week’s Israeli elections. Notably, attacks reportedly by extremist Jewish settlers against Palestinians during the annual olive harvest.

Roadblocks have already been set up in nearby Palestinian towns as security operations continue.

Meanwhile, far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir responded to the attacks by calling for Israel to take full control of the West Bank.

This comes just 4 days before elections in Israel.
