Voters in one Bishop Lavis-area community say it is time for a different kind of candidate.

Heart FM’s Arthur Pose reports below….

Report transcript:

Residents of Matroosfontein near Bishop Lavis are pinning their hopes on an independent candidate in next month’s election.

The area falls under ward forty-two, which has been under the DA in recent years.

Community activist Thurston Cooper is standing in the ward.

Resident Peter James says he has had enough of traditional parties.

For the past 30 years, I vote for a political party. But political parties, they did nothing in the past. I am very, very disappointed the party did I vote for the past 30 years [sic]

Another resident, Edward Pylman, says he wants a councillor who is proactive.

I want somebody who the people has voted for, and after the voting, don’t disappear. Don’t come [act like], when we come to the office “oh he’s not here” he’s wherever. But he’s not in the area that has voted for him.

Elderly residents are urging all eligible voters to turn out and vote.
