The N1 towards the Cape Town CBD is now open to traffic following overnight emergency repairs.
City engineers used two massive cranes to successfully realign a 100-tonne section of the FW De Klerk Boulevard pedestrian bridge.
Which was severely damaged by a truck on Saturday night.
Repairs took the most part of late Sunday, with fears that the work would impact the early morning commute.
However, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility Rob Quintas has assured that all road closures have been lifted.
“That initial process was completed in the early hours of Monday morning, with all debris removed and with the N1 inbound and outbound now open for the morning commute in to and out of the CBD”.
Job scoping for remedial and aesthetic repairs will begin this week.
