Over the past 50 years, Tygerberg Hospital has shaped global and local healthcare through pioneering research, clinical care, and innovation.
The academic hospital has achieved several historic milestones:
- 1986: Celebrated South Africa’s first test-tube quadruplets.
- 1996: Recorded the country’s first pregnancy following an ICSI procedure.
- 2014: Performed the world’s first successful penile transplant.
Training the Country’s Healthcare Workforce
Beyond patient care, Tygerberg plays a defining role in developing South Africa’s medical workforce.
