The Western Cape Education Department is warning the public about fake job advertisements within the education sector.
One false advert on social media claims that the Department of Basic Education is recruiting unemployed young people to assist in marking Grade 12 exam papers in December.
It also falsely claims a payment of over R8000.
The WCED has also been alerted to another fraudulent posting, advertising teaching vacancies at schools that did not advertise these posts, or where no such vacancies exist.
“Some schools have confirmed that the advertised positions are fraudulent and were not authorised by the schools concerned.”
The department is urging job seekers to verify vacancies through its official website and recruitment system before sharing personal information.
“Warning signs include requests to apply via private email accounts, such as Gmail addresses, and advertisements that do not follow official recruitment processes.”
Important facts for education job-seekers:
- Permanent WCED teaching posts are advertised only through the department’s website or recruitment system.
- The WCED’s online E-Recruitment System is the official platform.
- Job-seekers must register and apply via this System.
- SGB posts may be advertised by a school – which directly verify the validity of the post.
- The WCED will NEVER request payment for job applications, interviews or appointments.
“Members of the public are encouraged to verify any employment opportunities through official WCED channels before submitting personal information or documentation.”
