The Randburg Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to former Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya.
The 59-year-old is accused of rape, human trafficking and grooming a minor among other charges.
He was arrested last month.
Sibiya will remain in custody. According to a post on X, the Presiding Officer ruled that the “interests of justice do not permit his release on bail”.
The court also said that is Sibiya were released on bail, there would be a chance he might contact the 16-year-old victim.
Magistrate Hleziphi Mkhasibe said Sibiya will not suffer financial hardship if denied bail, noting that he has access to pension benefits and medical care.
