Former Deputy National Police Commissioner, Shadrack Sibiya will soon know if his bail application was successful.

The 59-year-old is accused of rape, human trafficking and grooming a 16-year-old girl among other charges.

He was arrested last month at a strip club in Sandton.

During his bail application Sibiya denied the allegations, while his defence, advocate Estelle Killian argued that the State failed to establish sufficient grounds for his continued detention.

The bail decision was postponed last week, to allow more time to consider the evidence.

After weeks of legal arguments, and the review of witness testimonies and relevant documents, the Randburg Magistrate’s Court will hand down judgement on Sibiya’s future today.

Issues with the minor victim’s father, Mr M

A big issue that rose from the proceedings, is Sibiya’s reported intimidation and resentment towards Mr M.

This is the state’s witness, and is the father of the 16-year-old victim.

His affidavit was read into the record by Prosecutor Velile Makhasana. It said Mr M filed a report with the police regarding the allegations involving his daughter.

Later, the investigating officer called him in to fomalise the case. And as Mr M was at the station, he reportedly received a call from Sibiya, who questioned why he was there.

Mr M also told the court that Sibiya threatened to harm his family.
