Some independent candidates in Cape Town, believe they stand a good chance of being elected to council after next November’s elections.
Around 30 independent candidates have been registered with the IEC in the Western Cape.
Independent candidates can only contest ward seats, but not PR seats.
Among them is Thurston Cooper, who is contesting Ward 42, covering areas including Bishop Lavis, Matroosfontein and Clarke Estate.
Coooper says he’ll use a different approach to address some of the challenges facing residents.
Meanwhile, Xolani Feni is contesting Ward 37 in Nyanga.
The local activist says his experience working with communities will help him address some of the challenges facing the known problematic township.
