Kenyans are digging deeper into their pockets after the energy regulator hiked maximum retail fuel prices, blaming the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Petrol is up six per cent, while diesel rises by four-and-a-half per cent.
In Nairobi, a litre of diesel now approximately costs R28.96 per litre, while kerosene shoots up to about R27.96 per litre.
Prices similar to that of South Africa.
To cushion consumers, the government has extended the halved eight per cent VAT rate until January 14th.
The new prices remain in effect until November 14th, threatening to drive up costs across transport, agriculture, and construction.
