A manhunt for the individual suspected of murdering 23-year-old Boitumelo Gift Mashita lead authorities to a grim discovery.
They found the suspect dead inside his vehicle in Midrand yesterday evening.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the deceased man was Mashita’s estranged husband and had been officially identified as a person of interest.
“It is believed that he may have ingested an unknown substance, as no foul play is suspected at this stage,”
The SAPS Tembisa Tracking Team had been actively tracing his whereabouts when Midrand Police alerted them that his vehicle was located within their precinct on Monday evening with his body inside.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Mashita was tragically shot and killed on Monday morning while on her way to work in what was initially reported as an alleged robbery, during which her personal belongings were stolen.
No links to Ekurhuleni murders
While the community remains on edge, law enforcement authorities have confirmed that preliminary investigations have not established any link between Mashita’s murder and the recent, separate cases involving the bodies of women found across Ekurhuleni.
